About the Rockfort


The Tiruchirappalli Rock Fort (Malaikottai) is a historic fort and temple complex built on an ancient rock. It is constructed on an 83-metre-high (272 ft) rock that may date to over one billion years ago, which makes it older than the Himalayas.


Temples Inside

  • Ucchi Pillayar Temple: Located at the top of the rock, dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It offers a stunning 360-degree view of Trichy city.
  • Thayumanaswami Temple: The rock-cut temple dedicated to Lord Shiva under the main peak. It features masterpiece Pallava and Nayak architectures.

Timings: 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Steps: Approximately 344 steps carved out of the rock.
