The Jambukeswarar Temple, Akilandeswari temple is a famous Shiva temple in Tiruchirapalli (Trichy) district. The temple was built by Kocengannan (Kochenga Chola), one of the Early Cholas, around 1,800 years ago.
This is one of the five major Shiva Temples of Tamil Nadu representing the Mahābhūta (five great elements). This temple represents the element of water (Appu). The sanctum of Jambukeswara has an underground water stream, and despite pumping, water is constantly flowing.
Timings: 6:00 AM – 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM
